RESPONSIBILITIES:

In the Outpatients Department the patients will attend the hospital for day case treatments and/or consultations. The overall responsibility as an oncology nurse is to care for critically or chronically ill cancer patients. They administer chemotherapy, implement new methods of symptom treatment, and monitor patients’ progress. Oncology nurses also create a supportive environment.

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working as an oncology nurse you will be responsible for planning and delivering appropriate care for admissions and discharges to the unit, working to ensure close monitoring of patients to avoid/predict deterioration and manage care appropriately. You will comply and promote infection control standards and co-ordinate with other team members to ensure patients to be readmitted are rescheduled and booked according to procedure. As an oncology nurse you will also be responsible for the administration of cytotoxic drugs. Maintaining a safe environment for patients under your care will be part of your daily responsibilities along with any other ad hoc duties required by senior members of staff.

EDUCATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

·Nursing Degree
·NMC Registration
·Qualification in Chemotherapy Administration

REQUIREMENTS:

To be eligible for the role, you will need to:

·Registered General Nurse
·NMC registered
·Experience in administering cytotoxic drugs
·Have at least 6 months Acute Nursing experience with exposure to oncology and a keen interest in further developing your career in this field of nursing
·Have a recognised chemotherapy qualification
·Be a caring and compassionate nurse with strong attention to detail and the ability to work well under pressure.
·Have excellent communication skills and be a good team player.
